Southeastern Babe Ruth is introducing a new 13-year-old league for the 2017 season. All games for this new division will be played on 54/80 field dimensions. These changes were implemented to ease the transition between the smaller Cal Ripken/LL/Pony fields and the regulation 60/90 field that’s played in high school and beyond. The goal, and focus, is to develop 13YO ballplayers vs a quick transition to the larger 60/90 field against older players. Important to note, the 13YO player can also opt to play in the 16U division as well.
The 13YO division will be segmented into different ‘seasons’. Specifically, an Exhibition Season, followed by a regular season and then tournament play. The Team’s win/loss record during the regular season will determine the seeding for tournament play. This 13YO league is open to any player or teams in the central KY area who wants to participate at Southeastern Babe Ruth at Veterans Park. However, know that eligibility for postseason all-star team participation is restricted to only players who live in the SEBR district (essentially the eastern half of the city).
Additional Information for Coaches/Parents
* For the 13YO draft, a coach can protect up to 7 players. That number may be revised upward depending on the number of kids who register. The idea behind this is to allow a coach to bring a majority of an existing “team” into the league, and to supplement the protected players with drafted players. As an example, if a travel team coach wants to coach in the league and bring 7 players from his travel team, or wants to bring up to 14 players from his travel team and break up into 2 league teams, that can be accomplished.
* Fee structure has been significantly reduced from prior years. Click here for more details.
